We want you to be happy at Aotea College. There are times however, when things do not go as smoothly or as well as we may like. Any problem should firstly be taken to the International Department staff. If you want changes made you must follow the procedures that Aotea College has established for students who have a complaint against the school.
Problems with school work or a teacher
Make an appointment to talk to your classroom teacher, Hui Ako teacher or Whānau Leader about your concern.
Talk to Ms Cox International Director.
Problems with other students
Take the time to talk to your Hui Ako Teacher or Whānau Leader about your concern.
You can also talk with one of the school’s Guidance Counsellors.
They are very helpful, especially with broken friendships. Their offices are opposite the library. You can make an appointment to see one of them by completing an appointment form at the main school office in the administration block.
Talk to Ms Cox.
Problems with your home-stay or caregiver
Talk to Ms Cox, she will discuss the concerns with you and do her best to sort things out. If necessary she will contact your agent and/or your parents.
If none of these actions is resolved to your satisfaction you (or your parents or agent) can then raise the matter with the Principal, If the matter is still not resolved satisfactorily you can put your concern in writing to the Board of Trustees of Aotea College. The Board will then consider the matter and come to a decision.
If you are not satisfied by the outcome of our complaints process, you may notify the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). Please refer to the NZQA website for more information on their role and process.
You may also be able to take your complaint to Study Complains – a dispute resolution provider specialising in supporting international students in resolving disputes with their schools. This is a free service for international school learners.
